Dryer not drying clothes — takes multiple cycles
Reported Symptom
Clothes are still damp after a full dryer cycle. Dryer runs warm but clothes require 2 or more cycles to dry. Dryer exterior may be very hot to the touch.

Diagnostic Steps
Check dryer lint screen — pull out and inspect. Run finger across surface.
Expected: Lint screen clean and mesh unobstructed
If fails: Clean lint screen. Test dryer. If still not drying, proceed.
Go outside and locate exterior vent cap. Run dryer on high heat for 2 minutes, then feel for airflow at vent cap.
Expected: Strong warm airflow felt at vent cap
If fails: Weak or no airflow = duct clogged or vent cap blocked. Proceed to step 3.
Pull dryer away from wall. Inspect flexible transition duct — look for kinks, crush damage, or disconnection.
Expected: Transition duct unobstructed and properly connected
If fails: Replace kinked or crushed transition duct with rigid or semi-rigid metal duct
Disconnect transition duct from dryer. Run dryer — feel for strong airflow at dryer exhaust port.
Expected: Strong airflow from dryer itself = dryer heating is fine, duct is the problem
If fails: Weak airflow from dryer exhaust = dryer heating or blower issue, not vent
Solution
Clean dryer vent duct run and exterior vent cap. Replace kinked or flexible foil transition duct. Clean lint screen.
