Range hood light not working
Reported Symptom
Range hood light does not illuminate. Fan may still work. Light switch on hood is unresponsive.

- •Range hoods are above active cooking surfaces. Turn hood off and allow to cool before replacing bulbs. Do not exceed the wattage rating stamped inside the hood — the socket wiring is rated for that specific wattage.

Diagnostic Steps
Check the bulb type: range hood labels specify the maximum wattage and bulb base type (E12 candelabra, E26 standard, GU10 bi-pin, T8 fluorescent). Remove existing bulb and note type.
Expected: Bulb type identified.
If fails: Label not readable = measure bulb base diameter and bring to hardware store for matching.
Replace with correct bulb at or below the wattage rating. Using a higher-wattage bulb than rated damages the socket and is a fire hazard. LED replacements are available for most range hood applications and run cooler.
Expected: Light works with correct replacement bulb.
If fails: New correct bulb doesn't light = socket or switch issue.
Inspect bulb socket for grease corrosion or burn marks. A corroded socket won't make contact even with a new bulb. Clean socket contacts with fine sandpaper or emery cloth (power off). For burned socket = range hood light assembly replacement.
Expected: Clean socket contacts; light works.
If fails: Socket damaged = contact manufacturer for replacement light assembly or replace full hood.
Solution
Bulb replacement is a 5-minute task. Range hoods with halogen bulbs benefit from LED upgrades — lower heat output reduces grease baking onto the bulb socket, extending socket life.
